Fabulous Fabric Friday: Salt Water

Hello!  I hope you are having a wonderful week.

This week’s Fabulous Fabric Friday is all about Tula Pink’s new range, Salt Water.

It’s so new that you can’t get it in Australia.  But when it comes, which won’t be long, you’ll be able to get it at The Quilters’ and Embrioderers’ Store in Brisbane, which has a good range of Tula Pink.

I am really drawn to all things nautical at the moment, and so I was delighted to spot this one.

1

It comes in three colourways, red, green and blue.  The blue is my favourite.

5

It is a nice masculine choice without being too heavy (which I often find is the case when you are looking for the right fabrics to make something for a man).

8

It’s hard to go past these cute little anchors…

7

And this one a lovely detail to it, that could even work nicely in a non-nautical project.

If you can’t wait until they are released in Australia, and are willing to pay for the postage, you can order them from Cotton Patch in the UK now.

Here’s the reward for getting to the end of this post – something I am very excited about.  Bonnie and Camille have released a sneak preview of their next Moda collection.  It’s called Daysail, and it looks like it’s a little nautical too!

My mind is already swimming with projects for using this lot!

Happy Friday, everyone.

Fabulous Fabric Friday: Tule by Leah Duncan

How did it get to be Friday so soon?

This week’s fabulous fabric Friday is all about Tule by Leah Duncan for Art Gallery Fabrics.

TL-30020-Flora__s-Oasis-Naranja-500px

It’s a wonderfully expressive range, with designs that are to evoke the Nevada and Arizona landscapes.

TL-30021-Folklore-Terracotta-500px

I can see so many uses for this range – and not just in quilting.  It would make beautiful bags, accessories and giftware.

TL-30028-Meadow-Vale-Bright-500px

You can get it in Australia through Bella’s Patchwork, and probably at other places too.  The fat quarter pack looks like a pretty good deal.

Art Gallery Fabrics are a Florida based company that include ranges from a few designers.  They’re all pretty good, too!  You can see the whole Tule range here.

I hope that’s a little colour inspiration with which to send you into the weekend.

Happy Friday everyone!

Fabulous Fabric Friday: September Blue

Perhaps it is my longing for Spring, but I am smitten by Dashwood Studios’ new range, September Blue.

It’s designed by Susan Driscoll of The Print Tree, and it is just so pretty.

I have not yet found an Australian fabric shop that stocks it, but you can get it shipped online from The Homemakery.

If you know a local place that sells it – please let me know!

Happy Friday, y’all.

Fabulous Fabric Friday: Lotus Pond

This week’s fabulous fabric find is the new Lotus Pond collection by Made by Rae, which is a line designed for Cloud9.

You can see the many wonderful ways this line can be coordinated at Made by Rae’s blog, here.

I’m a Ginger Monkey has made it into this beautiful cushion.  It made me so inspired to sew, right now!

Here’s the coordinating text fabric Ginger Monkey has used.  It is such a clever coordinate, I think it would go with most modern colourful fabrics as a background.  It’s designed by Alison Glass.

Now, to get sewing!

Happy Friday, everyone.

Fabulous Fabric Friday: Florence Broadhurst

When it comes to furnishing fabrics, there are few designers that are more timeless than Florence Broadhurst.  She’s Australian, too!

I can’t recommend enough the value of keeping an eye on ebay for people selling remnants from recovering jobs, or bigger household projects.   I’ve been able to gather several metres of gorgeous prints from doing so.

Here’s my all time favourites:2014-06-25 08.13.05

2014-06-25 08.13.33

The second one is a really large print (it might be hard to tell from this photo, but each flower is about 40cm across).

Her brights are really good too.  Here, I’ve covered a corkboard in her fabric and now it is a really special piece.

Here’s a serving tray I covered in Florence fabric too:

(See this post on how to cover a tray with fabric.  It’s such an easy, fun, useful project!)

Needless to say, cushions and upholstery look great in Florence fabric.  If you’ve got a little more cash and a nice room for it, her rugs are pretty amazing too.

Happy Friday everyone!

Fabulous Fabric Friday: Hello Kitty!

Liberty Art Fabrics are beautiful.  Japanese character Hello Kitty is cute.  What could be better than combining the two?

From what I can tell, these fabrics are only produced in Japan, and so ordering from Etsy is the way to go.

Try these sellers:  Par Rui, lilymeru and washimatta.

Such detailed, colourful, fun fabric.  It’s a lot of postage from Japan, but probably worth it for something one of a kind.

Happy Friday everyone!

Fabulous fabric friday

Hello!

Today I have something a bit different for fabulous fabric Friday.  Something cheap and simple, and then something expensive and special.

First things first.  Someone very special to me is a teacher.  She has a class of year one students, and because they are only just a little bit bigger than babies, she keeps some European pillows in a corner at the back of the classroom for those badly in need of a nap, or for those who aren’t feeling well.

Before this school year started, she said that she would like some new pillowcases for them.  The ones that came with the classroom were brown.  Where’s the fun in that?

So, I have made her some new pillowcases using this fabric that I picked up from Lincraft.

2014-06-12 21.41.262014-06-12 21.42.08

What child doesn’t love puppies?  Particularly puppies wearing striped and polka-dot coats…

It’s the JoAnn brand that I seem to only see at Lincraft.  It was $9.99 from the furnishing fabrics section.  I wouldn’t use it for quilting, but for the heavy-duty work these pillowcases will be doing, furnishing fabric was perfect.

A week later it was even a further 30% off!

Because it is furnishing fabric, it is extra-wide too.  It meant I could do one whole pillowcase with just a 65cm wide cut.  Unlike most crafty projects, this is one that actually turns out to be cost effective when compared with the cost of just buying a ready-done pillowcase.  It’s a whole lot cuter, too.

If you have ever thought about making European pillowcases for a play room, or even for an adult’s bed, here’s the pattern I drew up and used.  I’ve tested it out, and it works really well.  Super easy.

Now here’s the special stuff.  Liberty Tana Lawn in the Susannah pattern.  I love the yellow and blue colourway, and have used it on so many pretty projects.

2014-06-12 21.57.01

Look at the detail in this.  From the centres of the sunflowers, filled with love hearts, to the delicate edges of each petal, it’s the perfect example of why Liberty are known as “art fabrics”.

2014-06-12 21.57.16

I just love it.

2014-06-12 21.57.08

Have a look here at the rainbow colourway.  I even have this Sportscraft dress made from the blue and white colourway.  Very soon, it will be released in a pink and white colourway, see here.  The purple and green is lovely too.  The Etsy store that I have linked to, Alice Caroline Supply, has the whole range.

At around $40 a metre, you had better have something special in mind for it before you buy, but everything that I make from Tana Lawn has a beautiful texture, silky and light.  It also washes beautifully.  Just remember to use a very fine needle, and even a finer thread, when you sew with it.  I tend to use Superior Threads’ Bottom Line with Tana Lawn.  It’s not designed for that purpose, but I have it already for quilting and it is fine enough to get a lovely finish.

Happy Friday everyone!

Fabulous Fabric Friday: “Color me Happy”

I’m a big fan of the combination of navy, green and grey.  That meant I was delighted when I saw V and Co’s new line, “Color me Happy”.

Look at those beautiful greens, greys, teals, emeralds, navy… ahhh!

Add some white or grey, and this really is a favourite palette of mine.

As with all good Moda products, you can get the fat quarter bundle, layer cakes, charm squares, jelly rolls or candy squares.  The yardage is also available, great for when it comes to doing your borders or backing.

Here’s the whole collection:

If you have a love of pink and green together, you will have some fun with this collection.  That’s not my favourite, but I have seen it done very well.  I’ll just use the pinks on something else.

You can see more at the designer’s blog, here.

I hope this gets your creativity cranking for the weekend!  Happy Friday, everyone!

Fabulous Fabric Friday: Miss Kate by Bonnie and Camille

2014-05-28 22.56.01

I’m very happy to have got my hands on the new Bonnie and Camille fabric range, Miss Kate.  I was so excited when my parcel from the Quilters and Embroiderer’s Store arrived!

2014-05-28 22.56.06

Bonnie and Camille always make such wonderful, vintage-inspired designs.

I thought I’d crack open the pack and take some pics of the different colour themes inside, so that you can get an idea of the different looks you can achieve with it, by focussing on one or a few of the colours used.  Sometimes it’s great to throw every colour in the pack at one project, but as I learned with April Showers, sometimes holding one or two of the colours on their own can be even better.

Here’s the reds:

2014-05-28 22.58.02

The blues:

2014-05-28 23.03.37

The aquas:

2014-05-28 22.59.26

The greys, which I particularly like in this range:

2014-05-28 23.00.22

The oranges… the colour of them hasn’t shown up perfectly in my pic.  They have a peachy tone to them.

2014-05-28 23.02.47

And finally, the greens.

2014-05-28 23.01.37

I’m going to have some fun with these.  They have also been made in flannel… perfect for a winter snuggle.  I’m thinking of a project with the red, blue and grey tones.

These seem to be hitting quilt stores in Australia about now, but if you want flannel, then you had better move fast.  For some reason, it is always harder to get!

Happy Friday everyone!
